History of Sai Movement in Mauritius
The Sai Movement was pioneered, in Mauritius, by late Pandit Jasodanand back in 1965, with the Sai Baba mandir at Curepipe opened to all devotees. In those days only a few Mauritians believed in the advent of Sai Avatar, but soon after, bhajans started gathering momentum and Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba conquered the heart of many, who gained solace, by following His teachings.

The first World Conference held in 1968 in Bombay marked the history of the Sai movement with the resolutions for the benefit of devotees in other parts of the world.
The second World Conference held in 1975 witnessed the creation of the World Council of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations.
The year 1981 brought another turning point in the history of Sai movement in Mauritius through a Yatra by the founder pioneers to Puttaparthi. Soon after the late charismatic bro. Parapen and brother Ramchurn pioneered Bal Vikas activities in Mauritius and training of the first batch of SSE teachers (GURU course) started in Mauritius.
• In 1983/84 the first Co-ordinating Committee was set up with bro. Bala Sunassee as the first Chairman. He contributed a lot in the establishment of various Centres and Devotional Groups around the Island.
• There were frequent visits of Regional Co-ordinators namely, Bros. Kishin Kubchandani & Dare Ogunkolati to oversee the development of the Sai Organisation in Mauritius.
• Activities such as: Seva (Service), Mahila (Ladies), Youth, EHV (Education in Human values), National Conferences, Workshops, Exhibitions, Medical Camps, Birthday Celebrations etc., were being organised all around the Island
• Other National Chairmen/ Co-ordinating committee/ National Council in Mauritius:

• 1992: Anandam Orphanage project started
• 1993: National Chairman bro. B. Parapen passed away in office
• 1993: Privilege visit of Sri Indulal Shah (World Chairman)
• 1993: bro. Siva Somanah became the National Chairman
• 1994: EHV started picking up at national level under the aegis of MoEducation
• 1995: 2nd visit of Jagathesan and 1st Dr Art Ong Jumsai icw EHV development at national level acknowledging contribution of Prof. D. Ramnauth
• 1998: The Sathya Sai Foundation of Mauritius Act was enacted by Parliament
• 2000: privilege visit of Dr Singh, Regional
• 2002: 2nd visit of Dr Singh, Regional coordinator in connection with the Restructure of Sai Organisation in Mauritius.
• 2004: The Organisation was registered with the Registrar of Associations, Mauritius as the “Sri Sathya Sai Service Organisation, Mauritius” and since then, is the only authorised organisation to use the Name “Sri Sathya Sai” and also the “Sarva Dharma” & “Values” Emblems
