Bhajan

Spiritual wing - Bhajan

1.    Bhajan

Bhajans / Group devotional singing is one of the fundamental practices of the Sathya Sai Centers around the world. Bhajans are usually held once a week, on Thursdays. In addition to Bhajans, Bhajan practice sessions are usually held once a week. During these sessions, established singers practise the songs they intend to sing during the week and new singers have a chance to train and develop their talents. The practice aspires to make the weekly bhajan session a more spiritually uplifting experience for all the devotees.
Bhajan activities are conducted in accordance with Swami’s guidelines. The duration of these activities is typically 1 hour. Bhajans are conducted across all centres and devotional groups in Mauritius. Special Bhajans to commemorate festival occasions of all religions are also held either at Centre, Regional or National level.

 2. Nagar Sankirtan

Swami says “Nagar Sankirtan is a great Sadhana. It is mass spiritual awakening. Gather in the early hours before dawn and proceed slowly along the streets singing bhajans glorifying God. Carry the name of God to every door, awake the sleeping with it, purify the atmosphere of the streets rendered unclean by angry shouts of hate or greed, faction or fights. Let the day dawn for you and others with the thought of the Almighty, the Compassionate, the Omnipresent All-knowing God. What greater service can you do to yourself and to others. This will give you health and happiness.”
In line with Swami’s teachings, Nagar Sankirtan activities are held across all Centres and Devotional groups. Devotees assemble early in the morning (around 5:30 am) and spread the Divine name in the neighborhood by singing Bhajans on the streets. The duration of Nagar Sankirtan is typically one hour; the activity commences with chanting of Omkar and Suprabhatam.
